Thanks For The Memories

Wow… my last week to work at 7f Lodge, where has the time gone?

This semester has flown by and I’m starting to feel like I need more time here. But like people say “all good things must come to an end.” And my job here at 7f for the past 12 weeks has been nothing but good. A blessing I would say.

Before I applied for this internship I had never heard of 7f lodge before, but it didn’t take me long to find out that this place is a hidden treasure. (Maybe I shouldn’t say hidden, considering we have had over 30 weddings and events since I started in august!)

7f is truly amazing and simply a breath of fresh air. I have cherished the time that I’ve spent at 7f and embraced their motto “love saves lives” to its fullest. The integrity from all staff members is something I will take with me forever.

It’s been a pleasure to watch the seasons change from summer to fall and now slowly fall to winter. I have enjoyed my experience working for 7f and really want to thank Donna and Philip for giving me the opportunity. I will miss spending my weeks here, but just like all of our guests, I know something will lead me back to this magical place!

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. Corinthians 13:13

Tis The Season!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The holiday season is a very exciting and busy time at 7F Lodge.

Our staff decorates the pavilion area and many groups host their holiday parties with us! The unique indoor/outdoor setup blends just the right mix of casual comfort and escape from “the city”. We also have lots of “winter” weddings. Couples draw upon the festive time of year to create wonderful holiday memories for their friends and family.

Our Holiday Cheer Special is a discount we offer our guests every year. Through the entire month of December all of our cabins are $129 a night (Monday-Thursday). It’s 7F’s way of spreading a little Christmas cheer! We put wreaths and little Christmas trees in every cabin to make our guests feel right at home during the holidays.

One couple has a very special holiday tradition at 7F Lodge. They rent a cabin and place their gifts for each other under the tree. Then they have a private gift exchange before heading away for the holidays to be with family. How romantic is that!?!?!

It’s a wonderful time for giving and receiving so if you really want to do something special for your loved one (or for a couple that you know is in need of a romantic getaway) come stop by our office and pick up a gift card to put in their stocking. We can even personalize the gift card with special wording just for you. We’ve seen gift cards where the grandparents have planned an escape for a couple with a new baby – grandparents offer to babysit of course! We’ve seen adult children purchase gift cards for their parents as a “thank you” for helping them with their 7F wedding. We’ve even seen bosses purchase gift cards for their employees. But, the most romantic gift is a gift certificate from one spouse to another for “the works” – cabin stay, couple’s massage, chocolate-covered strawberries, champagne, and roses or rose petals in the cabin. That’s such a special way to say “I Love You!”.

So, whether you are planning a party, working down your gift list, or in need of a mid-week getaway for you and your loved one, know that you can come in from the cold and find a treat this holiday season at 7F Lodge.

What Are You Thankful For?

There’s something beautiful about the fall season at 7f lodge. The changing colors of the leaves and the slow drop in temperature tell us that the holidays are near! Thanksgiving day is a time for many people to give thanks for what they have. Since tomorrow most of you will gather for a day of feasting, football, and family, I thought I would fill you in on a few things 7f lodge is thankful for!

Number 1…the people who started it all

Carol and Craig, the original 7f owners.

Carol inherited 7f’s land from her father and after witnessing the love that was shared out here she decided to turn the property into something everyone could experience. And because she kept her father’s wish of keeping 7f alive, wonderful things happen here everyday. Many people have traveled to experience the magic. Hundreds have been married, proposals have been offered and received, and more love has been shared than anyone could imagine.

Number 2…our wonderful staff

Our staff on property is like no other. They keep this place running and our managers keep everything in line. Even on chaotic days, the have every thing in check! Sometimes I wonder how they do it but their willingness to serve others is incredible. They love their jobs and making someone’s day is what keeps them going. Their hard work goes without being seen. But trust me, if you come and stay at 7f you’ll see what I mean.

Number 3…Our Guests

Our guests that keep coming back reassure us that we are doing our job and holding to 7f’s tradition. Their sweet comments, journal entries, and web reviews encourages us daily. Whether you came to spend a night with someone special or attended an event out here, we like to know about your experience. We truly believe this place is special and it makes us happy when our guests share that with us too!

We give comment cards to every guest so they can tell us about their stay. Their stories remind us that love really does save lives, the reason 7F exists.

Rock Garden

While there are many gardens at 7F, one in particular is special to the couples that were married here.  The rock garden at the pavilion is a cluster of unique shaped rocks. Every rock has a couple’s name hand written on it along with the date they were married. It’s a sweet way for 7F to honor every couple married at the chapel.

Screen Shot 2014-11-13 at 8.35.50 AM

Once a couple saves a date with 7F, the staff picks out a rock and personalizes it. They wait to give the rock to the bride and groom on their wedding day and encourage them to add it to our garden. A lot of couples love to come back to look for their rock.

Screen Shot 2014-11-13 at 8.37.06 AM

In the center of the garden, the biggest rock is from the first wedding at 7F. The original owners Carol and Craig married here on October 4, 1997. Their love and vision is from which all other weddings were able to happen at this beautiful place.

Hundreds of couples were married here, but we know there’s even more. We are still looking for names to add to the garden; so anyone who was married at 7F before 2002 please send us the bride’s and groom’s first names and wedding date. Our rock garden is another unique place that shows how “love saves lives”, a motto Carol has proven to be true at 7F Lodge.

There’s always room for more love

While hundreds have been married here at 7F Lodge, there have also been a great number of proposals offered and received. Proposals nowadays are getting more unique than ever, and 7F lodge is a wonderful place to get down on one knee and pop the question. With memories to last a lifetime, our staff is more than willing to help plan that special moment.

Call ahead to reserve a romantic cabin.

Rent out our facility to host an engagement party (after she says “yes”).

Work with a photographer and set up a time with us for a photo shoot around the property.

“We went to 7F Lodge and were staying in a cabin. I was sitting in a rocking chair, and he came outside and got down on one knee, it was just lovely.”

It’s Not All About Weddings

Most people first recognize 7F Lodge as a wedding venue and yes we do host lots of weddings, but what they don’t know is that we also host a variety of special events every year. 7F is a wonderful setting for business meetings, retreats, company picnics, private parties, and receptions. We have been told our facility is a perfect place to hold an event and we just love seeing guests enjoy the uniqueness of 7F year to year.

Every year one group rents out the property and hosts a “Fall Fest”. Which is complete with adult trick-or-treating and a costume contest at the pavilion. They decorate the inside and outside of every cabin and transform them to something a little more spooky! We can’t wait to see some of the unique costumes and cabin setups this year!

We’ve had a new community choir spend an intense day getting to know each other as they also prepared for their very first concert. There was joyful noise at 7F that day 🙂

Schools and college departments spend a day or two here for retreats that involve team-building and strategic planning with charts and graphs all over the place.

We set up a Christmas tree in the Main Hall and host tons of holiday parties for various organizations and companies.

Some groups just come for a dance party on the back deck. Most arrive with their boots on!

Others have hosted retirement parties, graduation parties, family reunions, etc. People can find any reason to celebrate!

One of our favorite groups enjoys a night of fabulous steak and our famous bread pudding twice a year.  Another group of men also come several times each year for fabulous steak and spiritual fellowship.

Every summer we have the honor of hosting a social dinner for the National Pork Board. They choose to come to 7F every summer for the great food and the atmosphere.

Many of these parties come back year after year for our famous bread pudding (secret recipe) and our just as famous peach cobbler (made from scratch) served with everyone’s favorite Blue Bell ice cream.

No matter the occasion 7F can provide a unique and memorable experience!

Behind The Scenes

7F Lodge shares so much love to the Brazos Valley, changing the world one night at a time! How might we do that people may ask? Well I’m here to tell you it starts with our wonderful staff’s dedication and hard work. They work behind the scenes to have everything ready before guests arrive. Donna calls it “superior service without being seen”.

On a normal day…

320– the number of window panes cleaned before and after an event at the main hall.

101 – the number of items on a basic cabin cleaning checklist that our Housekeepers handle with every cabin clean.

29 – the number of unique complimentary food items in every cabin for guests to enjoy.

14 – the number of years 7F Lodge has been voted the “Best of the Brazos”.

1 – 7F Lodge A Place Like No Other.

“Things just grow here”

The nature surrounding 7F Lodge is like no other. Something you can’t buy, create, or replicate. Sure, we plant roses by the chapel, but season after season we have noticed the most beautiful floral on the property creates a life of its own. When Donna and Phillip bought the property from the original owner back in 2007, Carol had mentioned to them “things just grow here”. Not exactly sure what she meant at the time, now I’m positive they understand. Random things bloom every season and you never know what will pop up.

Wysteria Spring2012

In the spring wisteria grows on top of the pavilion entrance and  blooms from about mid-March through mid-April. The cascading flower clusters are breathtaking and can add so much beauty to someone’s special day. There’s something so romantic about rows of wisteria swaying in the breeze that all of our brides love.

 Vogel Flowers

For many of us a field of wildflowers is one of the most beautiful experiences we can encounter in nature. These beautiful yellow wildflowers appeared just in time for this couple’s wedding at the end of last May.

 2014-10-15_1458

Last week I came across this unique plant and realized it was spreading all over the property for the first time. These bright purple berries that are typically grown in East Texas are called the American Beauty Berry. Ironic name huh?

Beauty covers the grounds of 7F Lodge all year around. People say exotic plants and wildflowers grow in the wild, somewhere they feel free. Although the acres of 7F might not be considered in the wild, the atmosphere here is something that cannot be beat. Even Mother Nature agrees.

“May your life be like a wildflower growing freely in the beauty and joy of each day. ”

– Native American Proverb

The Sugar Shack- How Sweet it is

Since all of the cabins here at 7F Lodge have unique stories and traditions, I decided to share some about our cabin of the month! From what used to be two old tenant farmer houses, 7F created the Sugar Shack. The Sugar Shack was the 5th cabin built on the property with the idea of creating an exclusive getaway with a bluesy music feel as the theme. A place where music feeds the soul.

Here is a picture of the two tenant farmer houses on the Brazos river bottom before they were moved to 7F Lodge.
IMG_7911
Pretty cool, what used to be a home for two separate families is now a romantic getaway for guests at 7F Lodge.

During the construction of the Sugar Shack, Hurricane Katrina hit the city of New Orleans. 7F Lodge hosted and welcomed evacuees that needed shelter until their damage could be assessed. A special couple from St. Bernard Parish that joined 7F’s family for several weeks actually picked up tools to help build the cabin. Their efforts became the soul of the Sugar Shack structure. When the couple returned to New Orleans, they found their house devastating with only a few things left untouched by the flood. One of those things was a picture of “Grandmothers Quilt” that the couple gave to 7F as a gift for their extended hospitality.
The picture of “Grandmothers Quilt” is still hanging in the Sugar Shack today.
IMG_7913
The Sugar Shack’s juke joint room is complete with an electric guitar, amplifier, and microphone that allows guests to get down in their own way. The “manager’s office” has a queen-sized bed, a black oversized Jacuzzi that leads to a screened in porch where guests are able to just kick back and relax. There is also a vintage 7F ranch style truck that can serve as a cute photo op.

Come find out more yourself! And let the blues open the door to your soul at the Sugar Shack.
